Lionel Andrés Messi is the son of Jorge Horácio Messi and Celia María Cuccittini. His family originates from the Italian city of Ancona and in 1883 his ancestors migrated to Argentina. Messi has a sister, María Sol and two older brothers, Rodrigo and Matías. He has also a beautiful girlfriend Antonnella Roccuzzo.

In Spain, he continued to show impressive progress rising through the ranks to Barca C, followed by Barca B and first team in record time. In the 2003-2004 seasons, at the age of 16 he made his team debut in a friendly match with Porto. The following season, on October 16 2004 he made his first appearance for Barcelona in the official match against Espanyol at the Olympic Stadium (0-1). On May 1 2005, Messi had the honor of becoming the youngest player ever to score a league goal for FC Barcelona, against Albacete when his age was only 17 years, 10 months and 7 days.

It was in the 2005-2006 seasons that Messi finally made a breakthrough in his career when he gave an extraordinaire performance in the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Juventus. He was also outstanding at the Santiago Bernabéu where Barcelona had a spectacular 3-0 victory and against Chelsea in the Champions League match. In the next season he again amazed the world by scoring some beautiful goals such as the one against Getafe in the Copa Del Rey. In the 2006-2007 seasons, the team scored third place in the Ballon d’Or and second in the FIFA World Player awards. His skills continued to improve in the 2007-2008 season in which he scored a total of 16 goals and also became the runners up for the FIFA World Players award.

The game only improved from there onwards. In the 2010-2011 seasons he made a Spanish record of scoring 53 official goals, a record matched only by Cristiano Ronaldo. He also played an essential role in the Champions League final at Wembley which helped his team to advance. In 2011 he won the Ballon d’Or for the third time in a row, a feat only realized by Cruyff, Platini and Van Basten. On March 7, 2012 he awed the world when he scored five goals in a match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. However, it was on 20th March 2012 that he became the Clubs all time top goal scorer in a 5-3 victory against Granada and defeated César Rodríguez's record of 232 goals. In the 2011/12 season he scored well in every match, totally an astounding 73 goals as Barça dominated the Spanish Supercup, Clubs World Cup, European Supercup and the Copa Del Rey.
Messi is also the captain of the Argentina national team and has played in two world cups, two Copa Americas and at the Beijing Olympics. Off the field, he was named a Goodwill Ambassador by UNICEF in 2010 to support the fight for children's rights across the globe.
